Some of the most recent and popular games or apps to land on Windows Phone 8 initially run on devices with 1GB RAM. However, that often changes after release and
those same great apps/games are brought to low memory devices, such as the Nokia Lumia 520, Lumia 620, or Lumia 720. Here are our favourite high-to-low memory games and apps.
Fresh Paint – £Free
Starting life on Windows 8 back in 2012, the hugely popular Fresh Paint now makes it possible to create masterpieces while on-the-go.
By using textured canvas, brushes and paints that actually mix like they do in real life, you’re able to produce some realistic paintings.
With Fresh Paint, you can start from scratch, allowing your creative side to wander. Or, you can transform photos into paintings, if you’re still practicing to become a Picasso.
Now that Fresh Paint’s available for devices with 512 MB RAM, everybody can get creative.
Temple Run – £Free
Run. Turn. Slide. Jump. It’s these simple controls that’s made Temple Run such an addictive game.
You control an adventurer who’s just stolen a precious artefact from an ancient temple. And, of course, stealing anything from an ancient temple means one thing; evil will follow.
Chased by large demonic monkeys, you’re forced out of the temple and into the jungle, where you just simply need to run as far away from danger as you can.
However, there is no safety; only coins to collect along the way to help you run further by way of purchasing power-ups.
Can you run? You have to! But for how long?
Halo: Spartan Assault – £5.49
This exclusive title is available for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.
Halo: Spartan Assault takes a different view of the futuristic universe than the normal Halo games. Rather than being a FPS (first person shooter), this game uses a top-down view, and that’s to give you a better gaming experience when playing on a mobile device – explains Dan Ayoub, 343 Executive Producer for Halo Publishing.
This game isn’t a direct port from an existing Halo game, it’s an entirely new game with a new story to tell that’s well worth spending hours playing.
You know the drill. Grab a laser gun, run around finding aliens, and destroy them – the usual great gaming experience we all enjoy from a Halo title.
Asphalt 7 Heat – £0.79
While driving a Ferrari or a Lamborghini in real-life is all but a dream to most people, driving one in a video game is much more of a reality.
In Asphalt 7 Heat, you can drive one of these cars and up to 60 different cars, including an Aston Martin and even a DeLorean (think Back to the Future) as you race around different tracks.
Compete against other AI drivers and, if you can get away with it, give the cars a little nudge here and there to make sure you beat them.
There’s also a multiplayer mode where you can challenge up to five of your friends.
As with any Xbox game, win as many achievements as you can to beat your mates.
Nokia Video Upload – £Free
Another exclusive app, Nokia Video Upload makes it easy to upload any videos you create on your phone to your YouTube account.
Once you’ve made a movie, use Nokia Video Upload to give it a title and to set whether it’s to be a private video or public, then upload – it’s as simple as that.
For short clips, under 15 seconds, you can use your cellular data connection to upload. If you’re creating a short film, however, you’ll need to connect via WiFi.
You can also upload in full 1080p HD!
These are just some of the apps/games that first appeared on Windows Phone 8 devices with 1GB RAM that have since made it to 512MB RAM devices.
