--> Huawei Ascend W2 coming in October; priced to take on Nokia !

Earlier this year, we saw Huawei's Ascends W1 Windows phone launch in Russia at a very wallet-friendly price of 11,990 rubles, which at the time was the same
price as Nokia's Lumia 620. Now Hi-Tech@mail.ru is reporting that later this month, Huawei's other Windows Phone device, the Ascend W2 will follow suit, heading to Russia at the Lumia 620's current price of 8,990 rubles ($279.00).

The Ascend W2 will be accompanied by its Android brethren, the Ascend Y511. And though it sports much higher specs than the Y511, the Ascend W2 itself is on the lower-end of the Windows Phone spectrum, perfect for competing with the Lumia 620.

Despite previous claims of not wanting to compete with Nokia on the Windows Phone front, Huawei is clearly following Nokia's lead in budget phone front and offering a competitive alternative. But this isn't a bad thing. Variety is the spice of life, and when smartphone shoppers see multiple Windows Phone devices to choose from, it lends credibility to the platform as viable challenger to Android.

Huawei's Ascend W2 has a 4.3-inch WVGA screen (800x480), dual-core 1.4 GHz processor, 512MB RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. In addition to the larger display and slightly faster processor, the W2 also packs a larger battery into a tiny 134 x 66.7 x 9.9 mm chassis, making it the thinnest Windows phone to date.

By pricing it right in the same range as its Nokia counterpart, Huawei will certainly earn the consideration of Russian consumers.
